Finding Leads

  • Hail ≥1" = roof damage. Filter to 7–30 days. Zoom into neighborhoods with dense 1"+ hail clusters — these are your hottest zones.
  • Wind ≥60 mph tears off shingles, fascia, and gutters. Look for wind reports near residential areas.
  • Tornado paths are obvious gold — entire neighborhoods need full replacements.
  • Save locations (☆) for areas you’re actively working so you can check back for new storms.

Door Knocking Strategy

  • Timing matters. Knock 2–14 days after the storm — early enough that damage is fresh, late enough that panic subsides.
  • Use the map at the door. Show homeowners the exact hail report near their address — it builds instant credibility.
  • Start with “free inspection.” “There was 1.5" hail reported right here on [date]. We’re offering free roof inspections — can I take a quick look?”
  • Work in clusters. When you close one house, knock the whole block — neighbors see you on a roof and trust follows.

Insurance Claims

  • Document with the storm report. Screenshot the StormScope map showing hail/wind at the property’s location — adjusters respect data-backed claims.
  • Know the timeline. Most policies allow 1 year to file. The 30-day filter helps find storms homeowners may have forgotten.
  • Supplement, don’t lowball. Use hail size from reports to justify full replacement vs. repair — 1"+ hail on asphalt shingles almost always warrants replacement.

Marketing Angles

  • Geo-targeted ads. Run Facebook/Google ads targeting ZIP codes with recent hail.
  • Direct mail. Pull addresses from high-damage zones and send postcards within a week of the storm.
  • Yard signs. After every install in a storm zone, plant a sign. Neighbors will call you.
  • Storm chasing routes. Use the radar overlay + alerts to plan your driving route toward active storm areas — be the first roofer on scene.

Pro Tips

  • Check 30-day view weekly to catch storms you missed.
  • Track your territory. Save 5–10 key markets and monitor them daily during storm season (March–September).
  • Use active alerts to prep. When a severe thunderstorm warning is active, prep your crew — you want boots on the ground within 48 hours.
  • Pair with a PA (public adjuster) for larger claims — they handle the insurance fight, you handle the install.
